Since my first performances of Mozart’s concertos, symphonies and sonatas and the study of his letters, the Bärenreiter bear has accompanied me all over the world. Whether Bach, Janáček, Schubert, Brahms or, later, Beethoven (and above all Beethoven!) – for me they are all inseparable from Bärenreiter. I can say with some certainty that my recordings of the 32 Beethoven Sonatas or the Diabelli Variations are a result of my study of these fantastic editions. The work went hand in hand with the new publications.

I cannot and do not have to agree with all the decisions of the Bärenreiter editors, but I am very grateful to them for opening up as wide a view as possible into a master’s laboratory or for providing inspiration for reflection.
