Knowing Bärenreiter’s scholarship can be trusted gives me confidence to make decisions about the music. If I want to go deeper, introductions and critical commentaries provide both context and further information about sources and interventions. Altogether, this makes for a very liberating experience as a conductor. Put simply: when I am conducting a work and a Bärenreiter Urtext edition exists, I will use it.
